Alex Lukas and his son Melvin opened our auto body shop in Portland in 1936. Forty-five years later Melvin sold the business to his daughter Laurie Carlson who, in turn, is now owned by her son, J.R. Each generation has set a new standard for innovation and customer service.

Meet The Owners
Laurie Carlson
Daughter (and granddaughter) of the founders, Laurie purchased Lukas in 1981. At that time auto body shops did not make a special effort to cater their services to female customers.

Laurie not only transformed how Lukas did business, but was influential in changing the entire industry. Her honors include the Automotive Industry's Most Influential Woman of the Year Award and the Astra Women of Excellence Award.

J.R. Carlson
Laurie's son and 4th generation owner, J.R. grew up working in the shop. After college he had no intention of working in the collision repair business and got hired by a large corporation.

Two years later, realizing he was an entrepreneur at heart, he came back to Lukas and has since purchased the business from his mother. During J.R.'s tenure Lukas has won numerous awards. And he has enjoyed long-term loyalty from his employees.
